Make Teeth Look And Feel Natural Again.

In our office, dental fillings are the most frequently performed procedure. They effectively repair and restore teeth while preventing painful decay or infection that may necessitate more extensive treatments. We utilize color-matched composite resin fillings, which have superior bonding properties compared to metal amalgam fillings. This allows for precise filling even in smaller spaces, resulting in reduced drilling requirements.

Why Are Fillings So Important?

While getting a filling may seem like a hassle, it is crucial to address cavities promptly. Even if your tooth isn’t causing discomfort at the moment, we highly advise getting a filling for the following reasons:

  • Halt cavity progression: Fillings prevent cavities from worsening.
  • Prevent pain and infections: They help avoid painful infections or abscesses.
  • Restore tooth strength: Cavities weaken teeth, but fillings restore their durability.
  • Long-term cost savings: Fillings are cost-effective in the long run, preventing more extensive and expensive treatments.
  • Reduce sensitivity: They alleviate sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures.
  • Preserve your natural smile: Fillings contribute to maintaining your natural smile for as long as possible.

How Is A Cavity Filled?

Numbing

Before we begin, we will take the time to carefully numb your gums. People often feel anxious about this step. We will numb your teeth and the surrounding area so you barely feel a thing during the procedure.

Filling the Tooth

After we confirm that you’re comfortably numb, your tooth is carefully cleaned and prepped. An adhesive gel is placed on the affected tooth over which a composite resin (white filling material) will be moulded and sculpted to match your contours or bite.

Curing the Composite

The composite resin material used to fill or bond your tooth is quickly cured and hardened with a special LED light. The doctor will carefully examine your finished tooth and make any required finishing touches before giving it a final polish.

The Cost Of A Filling In St. Paul

Fillings play a vital role in preventing dental issues, and most insurance companies offer substantial coverage for them. Depending on your insurance plan, you can expect to pay between $0 to $100+ for a filling. Without insurance, the cost ranges from $120 to $300 and higher, especially for multiple fillings.

Several factors influence the actual cost of your treatment, including:

  • Your oral health condition.
  • The number of fillings required.
  • Cavity location in your mouth.
  • Need for new x-rays.
  • Time required by the dental team to meet your specific needs.
  • Equipment and supplies necessary for comprehensive care.

Promptly filling cavities is of utmost importance to us. It prevents more invasive treatments, reduces the risk of severe dental pain, and ensures your overall well-being and satisfaction.

Your consultation will include an examination of everything from your teeth, gums and soft tissues to the shape and condition of your bite. Before we plan your treatment we want to know everything about the health and aesthetic of your smile, and, most importantly, what you want to achieve so we can help you get there.

Frequently Asked Questions

With a normal daily brushing and flossing routine and regularly scheduled cleanings and checkups, your fillings should last well over ten years.

Fillings used to be done with an alloy called ‘dental amalgam’ and had many nicknames such as “silver” and “mercury” fillings. While there is plenty of debate over the safety of amalgam fillings, according to the American Dental Association, scientific studies have not verified that dental amalgam is causing illness in the general population. So if you currently have silver fillings, don’t fear!

There are over-the-counter products available to temporarily fill a cavity or minor tooth damage until you can make it to the dentist but they are not a permanent solution and cannot replace a professional filling. A cavity is permanent tooth damage that must be cleaned, prepared and filled by a dental professional. There are severe risks to letting dental decay continue to worsen. If left untreated, cavities can lead to tooth loss and tooth abscess.

If you are experiencing severe pain that prevents you from eating or sleeping, this is considered a dental emergency and we urge you to call us right away. We can give you advice over the phone and see you as soon as possible. For temporary relief of toothache, apply a cold compress to your face over the painful area. You may be able to take the edge off your pain by taking a pain reliever like acetaminophen (ex. Tylenol) or ibuprofen (ex. Advil). Always follow the advice of your doctor and read the instructions on the bottle when taking any medication. Make a note of what medication, how much and the time it was taken so you can let us know when you come in.

Dr. Hartman did my cleaning so they could get me in faster even though the hygienists were booked. He and Jami were very personable, informative, and encouraging. I hadn't been to the dentist in a while and they didn't judge or make me feel bad. I will continue to go to Como Park Dental for my dentistry needs.

This was my first visit and I'm very happy I found them. Personable desk staff and dentist, excellent hygienist, and they have a great promo for brand new patients...an all inclusive price for the cleaning, exam, and ex-rays to get you started. The online form submission prior to the appointment was quite simple as well. Five stars for a very great first impression.

These guys are ALL! AWESOME!! Few months ago I had a bad tooth. My wife called and they got me in for a quick look the next morning. And ended up needing to be pulled. They got me back at the end of the same day to pull the tooth. Then made an appt for 12/26/23 for a routine exam etc.. since I only had the bad tooth taken care of previously. I needed a deep cleaning and I was worried my wife may lose her Dental insurance. So, these wonderful folks got me in the the next morning 12/27/23 to do a deep cleaning. Great Atmosphere. Lots of Laughter and friendliness. Warm greeting. Just Great! I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND COMO PARK DENTISTRY
